What Causes Reduction Of Stomach Pain During 12 Weeks Of Pregnancy?
Question: Hi doctor, hope you well. I am just curious about something. I am pregnant XXXX. Before 12 weeks I had like abit of a stomach and now this is the 12th week and my stomach has gone down. Is that normal? The doctor said I must go at 13 weeks for a scan. So il be going next week Tuesday XXXX. Which will be about 13+2?

In the initial few weeks of pregnancy especially after 7week till 11 weeks , one tends to experience a lot of bloating sensation with nausea and dyspepsia , which is common and can cause the stomach to appear bloated. Once into 12th week gastritis and bloating reduces and stomach saltines. However the earliestt uterus is palpable per abdomen is only after 12 weeks, so it is normal.
Secondly the scan at 13 weeks period of gestation is known as an NT SCAN or nuchal translucency scan which can measure the NT value , which is a soft marker for down's syndrome , but if less than 2.5, its normal. Also the scan checks for adequacy of placentation and corresponding growth of the foetus. This scan , as per protocol is to be done between 11 weeks to 13weeks + 6 days POG, so you are not going to be late. Don't worry.
