Brief Answer:
Its not common to have periods at 60 years.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..
It is unusual to have regular periods till the age of 60. Were your periods always regular or have it stopped and restarted again now? Please confirm it.
If you are having regular periods along with hot flashes, it means you are going to attain menopause soon..
If your periods have restarted after stoppage for some time, you need to be evaluated for any abnormality in the uterus by a scan.. Hot flashes can still be there.
Hope I have answered your query. Feel free to ask any doubts. Good day..

My periods stopped several years ago and I feel as though I never went through menopause as I never experienced any signs - hot flashes, etc. All of a sudden on October 4th I started bleeding and having hot flashes - certainly not heavy bleeding. Could this be a sig of hormone inbalance/stress, etc?
Brief Answer:
Get an ultrasound of the pelvis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
Not all people get hot flashes after the stoppage of periods as the body adjust to the change. But now may be there is some hormonal changes which made you get hot flashes all of a sudden..
Getting periods after menopause is not normal. An ultrasound of the pelvis need to be done to see for uterus and ovaries. If endometrial thickness less than 5 mm, it can be due to atrophic vaginitis and needs no treatment. If endometrial thickness greater than 5mm, an endometrial biopsy need to be done to detect any abnormality at the earliest.

does stress play a role in internal bleeding? Or do you feel this could signs of cancer? Thoughts on taking hormone pills?
Brief Answer:
Stress can be a factor..
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
Stress can be a factor. Cancer is the last diagnosis. It can be just an endometrial hyperplasia. But it is always better to get a check up to be on the safer side. So in my opinion it is better to get a scan done.. If everything is normal, after getting yourself examined for diabetes/ hypertension/cardiac disease, you can start on hormone pills.

when do you know if you need an hestorectamy
Brief Answer:
After the endometrial biopsy report comes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
Sorry for the delay to answer. I was out of station..
First a scan need to be done. If endometrial thickness greater than 5 mm, an endometrial biopsy will be done. If the biopsy report is normal, nothing needs to be done. Follow up with scan every 6 months.
If there is a problem with the biopsy report, then only hysterectomy will be advised.
Dont worry.
