What Causes Renal Leiomyosarcoma?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: My 84 year old mother has been diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma. She has a mass on her kidney which pushes into her stomach making it difficult for her to eat. She says it is painful to eat and has lost quite a bit of weight, very tired, no energy. We know this is a rare disease, terminal but my mom would like to live some quality of life while still alive. Do you think she could benefit from alternative feeding? If so which one. Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You can think of Palliative Gastrostomy .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

I am deeply concern with the misery that your mother going through at this age .

Considering her advanced age and nature of tumor the surgery for removal of kidney is of high risk.

Since it is difficult to feed her by all means you can discuss with your oncologist regarding Palliative Gastrostomy where a small opening is made in stomach directly and all the patient is given a small feed at frequent intervals through the tube.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Only fluids can be given throgh I,V line

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up
Only fluids can be given through I.V feeding and it is rather not advised for as a long term solution .

Where as all the foods can be given through Gastrostomy stoma (Opening ) .It is a simple and one time procedure to make stoma in stomach .

Thanks and Regards.
