Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query.
Considering your symptoms it is possible to have an gastrointestinal infection or diverticulitis.
Usually the diagnosis of diverticulitis is based on the medical history and physical examination.
Some tests that can help with the diagnosis are:
-Complete blood test that can indicate an infection.
-Stool test
The test that confirm the diagnosis is a CT-scan of the abdomen.
Colonoscopy is not indicated in the acute faze given the risk of worsening diverticulitis and bowel perforation.A colonoscopy can be ordered after the symptoms have subsided to rule out other causes like cancer.
Usually cancer of colon doesn't cause abdominal pain and onset of symptoms is not acute ,means that it causes vague symptoms for some time.
If your symptoms start recently and you haven't had any problem earlier (like constipation or diarrhea, weight loss for some time) it is high likely to be diverticulitis.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
