default
Posted on Mon, 18 Sep 2017
Question: My wife of 70 years old has suddenly developed a pain on the right side of her back near the waist. It comes on in bed and when getting up. It more or less disappers during the day with normal movement. She has done a urine analysis and the results were OK. She took an X-ray and the results were OK too. Otherwise she has been and is in good health. Your opinion will be very much appreciated. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Advice to undergo CT-scan of abdomen

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern

The possible causes for the pain your wife is describing could be due to kidney problems, aortic aneurysm, muscular pain or spinal problems.

A detailed physical examination is required.
I understand that your wife had already undergone Xray and urine analysis. However, not all Kidney/ureteric stones can be picked up by a Xray.

Kidney/ureteric stones not picked by a Xray can be seen in a CT scan.
Moreover, CT scan can look for other causes of loin lain like kidney tumor, aortic aneurysm etc.

Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider to undergo a physical examination and the CT scan done.

Hope this answers your questions

Hello again

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for following up.
I have gone through the attached reports.
The Ultrasound report indicates the presence of a mass in the liver.
It is indicated in the ultrasound report that CT abdomen has also be done.
It would be helpful if you could attach the CT scan report here, so that I can better know the characteristics of the mass and give you a detailed response.
Kindly follow up with the CT abdomen report.
Regards
Dr.Lekshmi

I beg your pardon Dr. I missed enclosing the third report, the real CT scan of the abdomen. I have the electronic scan now but don't seem to be able to add it here. I will attach it to an email soon. Thanks again. XXXX

Brief Answer:
I have seen the CT report.

Detailed Answer:
The Contrast enhanced CT scan shows features likely to be a hemangioma of the liver. Hemangioma are benign growths. However, some areas show central pattern enhancement. So a follow up MRI scan is recommended to rule out other causes like focal nodular hyperplasia or carcinoma.
The CT scan also shows mild diverticulitis. Treatment with antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin+Metronidazole is recommended for diverticulitis. Also, avoid constipation by eating fiber rich food like oatmeal, XXXXXXX fruits, vegetables, and drinking plenty of fluids will help prevent future diverticulitis episodes.

Hope I was able to help you
