What Causes Ringing In Ear Along With Headaches And Dizzy Spells?

Question: For the past two weeks, I have been experiencing ringing, clicking, steady tones and mostly "snow" (like when a TV has no picture) in my right ear. I get headaches and dizzy spells but they come and go. I also get burning sensations in my head and nose and my neck is killing me. The thing that bothers me the most though, is the fact that I can't hear in that ear. I don't think it's a total loss, but I definitely can't hear myself touching my ear. My GP looked in my ear and said there was no blockage or infection. She prescribed me antibiotics (amoxicillin-3x/day for 7 days) and ear drops (ofloxacin-10 drops 2x/day) a week ago "just in case" but there hasn't been a change. I am not around loud noises nor have had any trauma or injury to the ear. I am scheduled to see an ENT soon, but would love to get a heads up on what this could be. THANK YOU for your time.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having eustachian tube blockage in right ear due to allergy & infection .

If I were your treating doctor , I would advice
Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal spray thrice daily,
Antihistaminic Tab Claritin (Loratadine 10mg) at night &
continue Sudafed PE , Ibuprofen .

You will get relief .

Stop ear drop since problem is inside eardrum in the eustachian tube , it will not help .

Thank you for your response. I went out right away to get some antihistamines and saline nasal spray.

I just saw an ENT and he thinks I have Sudden Hearing Loss and will have to go on steroids for a week and take a hearing test. At the visit the doctor put a tone device thing to my forehead and asked which side I heard the sound louder on on. I couldn't really hear it on either side. He tried it again and same thing...until he held it to my left ear. Basically he stopped everything said I needed a hearing test ASAP.

Anyhow's I just wanted to ask if there was anything else besides a hearing test that could/should be done. I wasn't much concerned before, but kinda am now. Any advice would really be appreciated. Thank You.

If your ENT consultant think it is Sudden Hearing Loss on tunning fork test (Tone device) then you should do hearing test like pure tone audiometry (PTA) & impedance audiometry to know the Type , degree of hearing loss & status of middle ear .

Continue steroid for week .

Use multivitamins multiminerals antioxidants syrup like vitasure /zincovit twice daily , it will help in early recovery .
