Question: I went to Urgent Care over the weekend. Was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. I went due to the fact that I have had a drippy nose, dry cough and tired all of the time. I have been on doxycycline, and methyl prednisone and benzonatate for four days. Still low on energy and still dry cough. Please explain walking pneumonia and why I do not feel better.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
a milder form of pneumonia caused by a microorganism called Mycoplas

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

Walking pneumonia is a milder form of pneumonia. It is caused by a microorganism called Mycoplasma pneumonae. Patient may have symptoms of cough and cold and are generally well enough to carry on with the routine work. However, tiredness and weakness may persist for a longer duration even after other symptoms have subsided. Very often no treatment is required for the illness except some symptomatic treatment. However, doctors may prescribe some antibiotics.

So continue with your medicines as prescribed by your PCP. Take rest, drink warm liquids and eat a healthy diet. You will be well soon.

Take care.
