What Causes Scaly Erythematous Patches On The Cheek?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Jan 2017
Question: On my left cheek there is an area about the size of US quarter dollar coin that has some scaly skin and it flakes off in small flakes about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch square (approximately) in size. The skin feels rougher than the surrounding skin. Also the appearance of the skin is slightly more red in shade than the surrounding or normal skin. I have attached some photos for a visual reference and comparison.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have reviewed the image.
I can see a erythematous plaque on cheek with some scaling.
I would keep a possibility of either seborrheic dermatitis or cutaneous lymphoid hyperplasia. I would suggest a skin biopsy for a confirmatory diagnosis.
Does it itch?

Regards
