What Causes Scratchy And Dry Throat Along With Orange Patch On Back Of Throat?

Question: What is happening with my mouth and throat?

For the past two weeks I've had a sore throat and when I went to take a look at it I was shocked at how different it looks compared to how it was before... The back of my mouth/throat is veiny and with white and orange patches, whereas it used to be a healthy pinkish colour. I've been to a doctor and they prescribed something for GERD which has made no difference over the past two weeks. It constantly feels scratchy and dry, and is definitely different from how it used to be. It frightens me that no doctor knows what it is and my GP is not investigating it further. Does it look serious and will it likely return to normal?

Brief Answer:
anemic stomatitis, burn, nutritional supplements

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query and images.
The yellowish appearance and the enlarged veins can be secondary to burn because of hot beverages or food or anemic stomatitis. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. If it is anemic stomatitis you need to take nutritional supplements like iron and vitamin B12. If it is a burn it will heal in 5 days by its own if it is not exposed again to hot things. If the lesion gets exposed to hot food again it will not heal. So you need to avoid hot things.
These are the possible causes and treatment plan based on your description of the lesion.
I hope I have answered your query. Take care. If any queries are there reply me back.

So far i've been told it's: GERD, early onset asthma, early asthma, an upper respiratory infection, candidiasis, a deficiency, and now burns, and that it's "psychological"... it's hard not to worry when no doctor seems to know what it is. They aren't interested in investigating it further to see what the rest of the throat is like despite not knowing what it is and there's no point on going to A&E until it's too late. I've been taking every medication recommended over the past two weeks and it's just been getting worse. I am close to giving up.

Brief Answer:
Do not get panic, its not a major issue, blood investigations, medication

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply.
Nothing to worry. First you stop visiting to many doctors. You will get many opinions because the features are like that. The blanching and yellowish mucosa can occur secondary to throat infection or anemia or burn. It is not due to GERD or asthma. Nothing to worry, you can use topical analgesic like choline salicylate, topical anesthetic like lignocaine. Do saline gargling.
Regarding your tongue, you have fissured tongue and that might have fungal infection like candidiasis, nothing to worry about this also, keep the tongue clean by brushing it and rinse your mouth soon after eating anything.

Regarding your floor of the mouth, the veins are dilated. This we call it as caviar tongue. This occurs because of the increased elasticity of the vessels. This will not trouble you, it is asymptomatic. so nothing to worry.

You just be relaxed, it will disappear in another one week. Do not get panic by consulting many physicians. Do not keep thinking about the same. There is no big problem as such. Do not think about psychological problems and all. It is clear that it can be either secondary to throat infection or burns or anemia. So you get a blood investigations done like complete hemogram and let me know the details.
Again and again i am telling you, do not get panic, it is not a major issue.
