What Causes Severe Back Pain After Drinking Excessive Orange Juice?

Question: I have lower right back pain that sometimes occur when I drink too much orange juice or sodas. Could this be a kidney problem? Should I drink more water?

Hello,

kidney pain is usually felt where the ribs end. Lower than that only vascular structures and musculoskeletal disorders (more commonly) cause pain. Even if it's a kidney problem that causes the pain (renal colic) the orange and soda consumption is not relevant. There is no way for an orange juice for example to induce renal colic. Too many oranges though may in the long run cause renal stones but not right after eating them or drinking the juice!

Drinking enough water is important. You should drink as much as your body asks for. A healthy water consumption is approximately 1.5L per day.

Regarding your pain, clinical examination data are very important. You should visit your primary care physician for that...
