Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I'm taking both Bactrim and lasix as prescribed by my doctor. I woke up today with lower back pain. I'm a 5'4" woman weighing 170 lbs. I do yoga. Lasix was for water retention to bring down bp which was hovering at 140/88. I also take 180 mg Diltiazem. I'm at 120/73. Bactrim for infection in finger which is gone. No infection in bloodstream. Could my kidneys be my problem today? I'm very flexible and never have lower back pain. I also drink about n80 oz water per day. No sodas or tea. 3 cups coffee usually

Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

If it is the first day then it might just be simple bach ache. Kidney pain is usually at a place just below end of ribs not in centres but at sides of spine where lowest ribs meet the spine.

1)what is the exact location of pain?
2) During your course of arthritis did you ever have pain here?
3) Did you do any exertion of heavy work in last couple of days?
4) Is there any pain when you press at the area of pain?(is it tender?)
5) Is there any change in intensity of pain when you bend or move your body?

Answers to these questions will help me guide you better.

Regards.

1.on either side of spine right below waist
2. no
3. no. I did go to the gym but all I did was recumbent bike and yoga
4. no
5. when I bend forward it hurts more.. Usually I can easily touch my hands flat on the floor from standing position bent forward. But I couldn't od that when I got up today.
It's now 8:32 CDT and I'm feeling a lot better. I've been doing periodic stretching today. But I also drove my car 72 miles. So was a little stiff when I got out.I had back spasms 25 years ago and this
is not the same.

Brief Answer:
Muscle spasm.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for writing back,

Lower back pain with difficulty in bending usually is because of muscle spasm probably due to prolonged driving this is expected to get better in 2..3 days as it already is getting better. Here are a few things work considering.

1) Take good rest. Don't do things which will make it worsened.
2) warm water bottle use , reduces muscle spasms.
3) Stretching is a helpful strategy.
4) You can take simple pain killers like tylenol if you need otherwise better off without them.
5) Hopefully in a couple of days you will be all good.

Best regards.
