What Causes Severe Burning Sensation In Feet At Night?
Question: My 70 year old mother wakes up in the middle of the night because her feet feel like they are on fire. They will be bright red and she will run them under cold water before she can get back to sleep. What causes this. She takes hon meds, cholesterol meds and triglyceride meds.
Brief Answer:
neuropathy?
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
it sounds like peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathy is very common in diabetic patients, so checking her blood sugar might be helpful. A visit to a neurologist will be helpful to document this diagnosis (or exclude it!). A careful review of her medical condition and drugs is required. Alcohol consumption and other toxins may also cause it. Low vitamin B12 levels is another potential cause. I've mentioned just a few because the full list of potential causes is too large! The neurologist should investigate the cause after documenting a deficit or abnormal sensation.
Kind Regards!
