Brief Answer:
COPD indicates intense damage to the lungs caused due to smoking

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that you are worried about getting lung cancer. Since no cancer has been detected till now, you need not worry. You should still quit smoking as quitting at any age improves the chances of survival.

Your shortness of breath is due to the COPD which has developed as a sequel of the long term smoking. Enough damage has been done. Quitting smoking is the first step to initiate undoing the damage. Although inhalers might have limited response, you still need to use them. Also take steam inhalation. It will provide some relief.

Let me know if if you have any specific query and I would be glad to help.

Regards
