What Causes Severe Diarrhoea And Vomiting?

Question: I came back from the Dominican Republic last Sunday and starting Tuesday evening I was in the bathroom with severe diarreah. Then on Wednesday and Thursday I was vommitting. Until today I was in the washroom every hour or so. I went to the emergency room yesterday and they said I was fine and just needed to drink lots of fluids but I was not dehydrated. Should they have possibly done any kind of blood work or any other tests. I did stool samples to make sure I did get a parasite while away. I am still feeling very drained and have the shivers and can not seem to warm up but do not seem to have a fever. If I do have a parasite is the dangerous?

I have gone through your question and I understood your problem.

You had a loose motions which is a major risk for dehydration which comprises of depletion of body water content.

I would like to ask you about few symptoms, please answer these questions so that I can guide you better.

1. do you have dry tongue?
2. Are your eyes dry and sunken?
3. Is your blood pressure and pulse normal?

Yes if you get parasites in your stool sample then you have to take medicines to cure parasite infestation. You will be fine no need of worrying. Just follow your doctors advice.

I am feeling a lot better today and have probably only gone and have diarrhea once however the other four days my tongue was very dry and I knew I had to drink but I could not even get don't water it just was not thirsty and I couldn't eat anything because nothing stayed in my system but since I taking the imodium and drink a lot of ginger ale and had some chicken noodle soup and crackers I have been doing much better. my pulse and my blood pressure when I went to the hospital yesterday apparently was fine I just don't understand how I'm just so old and shivering and feel so drained

I was told that the one simple would take a couple days to get back and the other one would take a week no I've been back for a week now and not feeling well for 5 days this is not going to cause any problems with it being so long before I get the results is it

No, not much to worry about. I said if you have parasitic infestation then you need to take a course of anti parasitic medicines.

One more thing I want to mention here is that drinking chicken soup and other liquids wont help you much. What you need to drink is electral powder solution or oral rehydrating solution both of which are available in powder as well as liquid form. Gatorade is a good substitute if you cant find them.

If at all you are finding it difficult to drink plenty of water then you also can get intravenous fluid infusion under your doctors advice.

I was feeling better and now today the diary has started again. it just seems like when I start getting better I go back to getting worse

Why don't you get admitted?? Get a proper indoor treatment.
In my clinic, I advice inj metronidazole, ciprofloxacin along with loperamides and sporolac treatment. Also I give my patients intravenous fluids.

Though its not exactly normal, I would say mucus secretion isn't an ominous sign. It's just that your rectal mucosa has got irritated and thus is secreting mucus.

I do not have a fever but I find my self freezing and shivering at night. Is that normal?

Have you measured your temperature using thermometer or you are just telling it that your body isnt warm.?sometimes we miss fever when we try finding it with the back of our hand..but anyways its not normal I suggest you to consult with your treating doctor as soon as possible.
