What Causes Severe Dizziness And Pricking Sensation All Throughout The Body?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: Male 31. History: Left sided facial numbness from 2007 to prevent, unknown cause. All mris clear during that time. Has improved much since. Daily severe headaches (2009-2012). Have gone away.

July 2015. Onset of dizzyness and now bilateral facial numbness. Lasts weeks per episodes. no headaches, just dizzy and bilateral facial numbness /tingling mostly nose and cheek areas. Vestibular testing pointed towards central cause dx. vestibular migraine. Symptoms still persist as of now. Recently started low dose nortriptyline and verapamil to see if they will help.

More recently (week) in addition to the above i have been experiencing episodes of itch/pins/needles throughout my whole body in random places. It comes and goes and can jump frpm arm to shoulder ro legs very fast or multiple places at once.

concern is MS. My symptoms match perfectly. However my T3 brain MRI was clear as of August 2015. I have no muscle weakness whatsoever. Very strong and active. Is MS still a possibility? any other ideas?

Brief Answer:
Multiple sclerosis is unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Your facial numbness may be due to migraine or some other etiologies. Is there any facial weakness or deviation too?
Tingling sensation all over body without any specific involvement or weakness is very unlikely to be due to multiple sclerosis.
Is there any visual loss, limb weakness, family history?
Is there any objective sensory loss over face on testing or just subjective sensation?
Anxiety or stress may also lead to such tingling and numbness over face and body.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Face:

There is no weakness at all. Even when my face is numb I can still move it very easy.

Body:

No limb weakness what so ever. No family history. I can run miles, ect with no issue. Eyes are ok.

Pins needles/itch

This pins and needles sensation all over the body just started recently (this week). It is possible that nortriptyline could be causing this as I just started it 3 weeks ago?

I think my facial numbness and dizzyness is vestibular migraine, but not sure what this pins needles thing is that just started.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment as advised under guidance

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Vestibular migraine can be a possibility for facial symptoms or dizziness.
Pins and needle sensation may be drug related or non specific too.
If there is no definite weakness or sensory loss, nothing to worry.
Take anxiolytics under guidance for some time to get relief.
Neurologist or psychiatrist visit and opinion will be beneficial.
Wishing you good health.
