What Causes Severe Fatigue While On Pristiq?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 Sep 2016
Question: Hi Dr XXXXXXX
thank you for asking.
I am okay... I have made some progress.
I am down from 400mg Pristiq to 200mg.
I have noticed I am not feeling as tired & I am getting some work done.

I have a psychiatric appointment booked for Monday - I was wondering whether to cancel it or not. How do I know whether to cancel or not or whether to be assessed?
Maybe I should keep it - it's just extremely expensive & im not at that stage where I'm confident to work but I am a lot closer.... There is still a lot of things I need to organise and work through but I feel I'm getting some of my passion back. I've been taking vitamins for energy but I admit I still drink a lot of energy drinks - however I make sure they're sugar free.I've been using essential oils also and mediation and breathing excercises. I'm taking bush flower essences from my Kinisiology sessions and I feel a bit slow with my progress but I think it's because I'm so impatient. I'm attempting to stay aware of how much is to do with a possible mental imbalance, energetic issue or personality or physical health or even astrologically what may be affecting me including emotionally etc
I am scared if I don't go to the psychiatrist maybe I'll never know whether another type of medication may help me to better myself or motivate myself or whether it's just a matter of time and healing and extra self improvement that I must put in but I am also scared off side effects, and whether it will or won't take me to the right path/way for me.
Maybe I'll feel better once I'm completely off Pristiq and I'm making more lifestyle improvements, but on the other hand there is still a possibility I still won't be able to live my full potential and could spend many more years struggling.
I am going to pray/ask for the right answers for now - maybe my intuition can guide me if I stay open & honest with myself, and my doctors and my dreams and goals.
I feel my intuition guided me to taking pristiq- one of my friends talked about it done years ago and then not long after I noticed my notebook around that time had a similar name on it called Prestik.. And sometime after that I was prescribed Pristiq.
The lithium orotate hasn't arrived yet but I thought it would be here right now - I even really hoping it will help me with my motivation, moods and energy in general and help me to balance more, without the need to take any medications with side effects I may not cope with. But I don't want to also do a disservice to myself as a doctor once told me that I'd be doing a disservice to myself by not taking medication - I think this is because a lot of the time I'm stubborn and I want to figure things out without help, I find it extremely hard to ask things from people - including doctors, friends and family - I will rarely ask for anything - others seem to ask things if me a lot more, and I used to be so scared of saying no incase I upset them - actually last week my cousin started having a dig at me and being sarcastic and rude because I wasn't comfortable lending something she wanted to borrow - even though I'd been lending and giving her as much as possible. It was the first day I'd gone down from taking Pristiq and I could tell she was furious and upset (possibly rejected ) and taking out her frustration on me - I cried for nearly three hours... Not just because of the harsh things she said but other things to like a very special who had died some months before - I did cry about it a lot before but I was still missing him a lot. I know medication can't take away those things, maybe helps a bit but it doesn't take away the things I'm sad about. I still have dreams about things that were affecting me emotionally and spiritually before I began Pristiq.... But that's why I go to things like healing sessions and Kinisiology and other modalities including personal meditation, so I can do my best to break through those things in every way I can find, or I'm drawn too including just attempting to get through things by myself.
Anyway I'll be in touch

Brief Answer:
It is better to keep appointment

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for a follow up.

I am glad to know that you were able to reduce the dose of pristiq to 200 mg and still there is good progress.

While going through your query on last time I though 4 X 100 was a typo as dose of Pristiq is just 100 mg and not more. There is plenty of evidence that pristiq beyond 100 mg is helpful in side effects and not in effects. I mean to say that you can go down to at least 100 mg as this is the maximum dose which helps you best.

Regarding the psychiatric consultation I feel you should keep it and discuss the problem in detail. In form your psychiatrist in advance that I may take more time as I have many things to discuss with you so he remains prepared.

As we discussed earlier he is going to help to all possible extent and his services should be utilized. We know there are issues with medication side effects but there is always risk benefit analysis before prescription. Believe me that you are going to get more benefits than any harm in form of side effects on most occasions.

I hope this assists you.
Please update me following consultation with your doctor or any other important events related to your health.
Thanks and regards.
