Posted on Thu, 11 Sep 2014
Question: Most every day I get a severe pain in my lower abdomen. Also after a while pain comes over both of my thighs and radiates down like an ache. All this pain is very nagging and lasts from 20 mins. to maybe an hour. This happens almost everyday, sometimes two to three times each day. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Sounds like 2 possible diagnosis. testing needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Read your query
With the above information, I think there are two possibilities.

a. a renal calculi. A calculi forms in the kidney. When it moves, it causes severe pain, often associated to some urine problem. The pain can radiate to many area including lower abdomen, tip of penis/labia, thighs, gluteus etc.

b. backache- the spinal compression puts pressure on the nerves that feels like similar pain and can have vast distributions.

I would suggest a usg abdomen and urine test for first, and an mri ls spine for the latter possibilities.

What is a usg of the abdomen? I do not have any problem urinating. The mri of the spine has been done in 2012. I hurt myself caring for my deceased mother. What is renal calculi and is there a medicine to get rid of it? Please answer my questions, Thank you,
