What Causes Severe Nausea After Eating?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 May 2017
Question: Background: Two months ago, I had a stomach virus with nausea, fever, and violent vomiting (no diarrhea). The vomiting was the worse I ever had and caused me to have a black eye and ruptured vessel in my eye. It took me a week to recover but afterwards I felt fine except for occasional gas and burping. However, since a month ago I started getting periods of nausea on-and-off. I have tried postafen and it worked for a while but it has become less effective.
Now: The nausea has started to get worse along with excessive spit production and burping. Vomited yesterday but nothing came out. I do not seem to have heartburn as I do not feel any acid reflux. I do not have any diarrhea or any noticeable pain. Symptoms seem to get worse 2-3 hours after eating. Sleeping and lying down helps reduce the symptoms. I will be seeing my doctor next week but I wanted to get some suggestions beforehand.

Brief Answer:
Gastritis;

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone carefully through your concern.
From the history you described I would dropp to the conclusion that there has been a viral infection that has left an inflamation of the gastric mucosa ( gastritis) causing hypersecretion of acid ( exessive spit production) and nausea after eating.
If it was ulcer, you should have pain (is the most common symptom).
A cholecystitis would have persisting fever, pain at the right abdominal quadrant and vomiting.
A prolonged infection would have persisting nausea and diarrhea.
So, i think a gastritis is the most common probable cause.
Hope i have been helpful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
