What Causes Severe Pain After A Total Knee Replacement Surgery?
Question: dear doctor
my father , age 60, just underwent a total knee replacement surgery yesterday afternoon today at XXXXXXX
he is complaining of unbearable pain and weeping.
I am actually worrying by listening to this.
he says he is experiencing hell on earth due TK this pain.
pls guide and advise if this kind of pain is normal and explain post operative recovery period and points.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The first 48 hours are usually painful and with time pain decreases. It varies from patient to patient. I would advice to take either inectable pain killer like contramaal or oral preparation like tablet durapain.I am sure he will be getting the necessary attention at hospital. Just assure your father.
Normally we allow the patient to walk once the pain subside that is usually after 5-6 days after surgery along with knee exercises under physiotherapist guidance.

they said they are giving pain killers in limited qty during day and full course today night.
hopefully he should be OK.
today is the 2nd day after surgery, they made my father to walk few steps around the bed. my father complained of heavy pain during the same.
pls answer
1. how long in total the pain will last ?
2. will life after the surgery will be normal ?
3. what would have happened if I ever not opted for surgery to my father ? is there a problem? because I feel the pain during walk before surgery is better than the trauma he is facing bow.
4. finally what care he should take post discharge while walking.?
