What Causes Severe Pain Around Labia Minora And Cluster Of White Bumps On Vaginal Area?
Question: Hi. I began having very uncomfortable pain around my labia minora three days ago. This morning I noticed there is small cluster of tiny white bumps right on the tip. Very sensitive. Certain it is not an STD as my husband and I have been together 18 years and there is nobody else. What could this be and what can I try to treat it?
Brief Answer:
A photo of tiny white bumps right on the tip is requested....
Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,
Can you please send a photos of white bumps right on the tip of your labia minora? So, I can get a complete idea before running into final conclusions.
Are you also having vaginal discharge? If yes, can you describe : the quantity? color? consistency? smell?
From what you are describing, thrush is suspected. You can :
- keep a good local hygiene
- avoid perfumed soaps
- apply vaginal iodine locally
Looking forward to have the requested photo in!

In answer to your questions, there is no discharge whatsoever. I don't even know if a photo will show the white spots, they are so tiny...yet so painful. I don't use perfumed soaps. Will vaginal iodine help if it is caused by bacteria?
Brief Answer:
Following advice...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,
Yes, vaginal iodine (suppositories or lotion) will help even if it is a bacterial infection.
I'd like to have a look at bumps in order to specify if you should be taking only vaginal iodine suppositories or even clotrimazole cream locally.
Anyway, you continue keeping good hygiene and apply vaginal iodine locally for a few days. Avoid sexual intercourse during this time. Get your husband treated as well.
Hope it was of help!

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,
I just received your photo. I admit the quality was not as good to allow me to see the dots clearly; however, from what I saw and as per your reporting of no vaginal discharge, it might be due an infection of hair root at that area. This is especially true if you use shaving as depilation.
I advise to:
- wash your genitalia with warm water and soap (non perfumed) or intima cleanser
- rinse well first with warm to hot water, then immediately with cool water
- dry it well
- apply iodine locally, you can also use iodine suppositories for at least 6 days
- no need to take clotrimazole cream for the moment
If no improvement within a few days, then, should run vaginal swab and sensitivity testing to determine the type of infection and what to use to treat it. Perhaps you might need oral medications for which you need a prescription.
If your husband has also some bumps on his genitalia, encourage to have a good hygiene, avoid sex until improvement and let him try iodine lotion first.
Wish fast recovery! Let me know how it goes.

Hello. I have been to Walgreens and WalMart pharmacies and nobody knows what vaginal iodine is. The only thing I have found is iodine based vaginal douches. I have used one but do not know how to topically apply to the affected area.
A pharmacist suggeseted that I mix one and just use a qtip to apply, but the directions say to use within an hour of mixing. Do you have any further suggestions for me?
Is there any type of cream I can put right on the affected area if I can't find the vaginal iodine?

Hi back my dear,
Vaginal iodine douches are fine to use at least once daily.
You can apply betaine or iodine lotion locally during the day (morning ) while vaginal douches at bedtime for a few days and see if improvement.
All the best!

Brief Answer:
Look for Povidone-iodine 10% solution...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,
Iodine is commonly found over the counter. It is an anti-septic medication. You can ask for any antiseptic medication at your pharmacy. You can find where the medications for wounds are.
Sometimes, you can find as: Povidone iodine 10% solution (First aid antiseptic). Look for oxygenated water, they are located at the same place.
