What Causes Severe Pain In Left Shoulder Blade?

default
Posted on Fri, 15 Apr 2016
Question: I've done something to my back left shoulder blade area. I looked over my left shoulder and was suddenly in pain. It felt almost like a burning pain. Now I'm in pain no matter how I hold my arm. Occasionally the pain goes down my left arm. I've been using a heating pad and taking Advil. It doesn't seem to be getting much better even though it's been several days. Any thoughts about what I may have done or what else I cando for it?

Brief Answer:
It seems like you have sprained your muscle .

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well it seems more likely that you have sprained your back muscle. But since you say its been continuing for long I will recommend you see a doctor nearby. I would order an Ultrasound of shoulder to see if there is any possibility of muscle or ligament tear because then management will be different.

Pain medications do help. However since you didn't get better with Advil, I will suggest a better NSAID like Etoricoxib 90 mg. Discuss with your doctor. In the interim avoid excessive movement over that area as rest will speed up healing . You can continue with hot fomentation .

Take care.
