Posted on Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Question: I don't know if I need a hip replacement or what? My doctor doesn't seem to understand what is going on, he thinks it is a hernia. Why would it effect my lower right back and hip?

Can't be hernia

good evening

Well yes it s always a tough decision to see where the pain is coming from especially when the investigations are done in a limited way.

You are right as the hernia can't cause pain in the lower back and hip. very unlikely unless it is getting strangulated and causing nerve compression.

So either is the hip disease due to age or lower back problems which is causing the nerves to compress?

What I would suggest is a simple test at home. you can check online for Patrick's test and perform it urself. if you are able to do, rules out hip pathology and we can look for lower back pain cause. A X-ray or MRI would localise it then

hope the information was useful..do let me know for more queries.

Oh that you can check it on YouTube, demonstration videos are available. Nevertheless, if you can get an x Ray pelvis done, it would be more useful.
