Brief Answer:
Ultrasonography and CT scan of abdomen with other investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male 78 - pain in lower central abdomen - 5 inches from naval - does not hurt unless he moves - quite painful - Bowel and bladder habits normal - thought he was passing a kidney stone 2 days ago -

The most probable cause can be an inflammatory process going on in the part of the abdomen: Like diverticulitis as there is a history of pain on movement - enteritis of the nature that does not cause much of the intestinal manifestations like loose stools or bloating and so on.

I would advise you the following:
Since there is a pain on movement it is necessary to consult your Physician and
a reference for the Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation, examination and ask for investigations like ultrasonography and CT scan of the abdomen and so tests of stool, urine and blood.

This will give the most probable diagnosis and a treatment.
I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for relevant further questions if you feel that there a gap of communication.
