What Causes Severe Pain Near Waist Line?

Question: I have a pain (intermittent, stabbing sometimes last 12 hours) right side near waist line. I am treated for Crohn's with Entocort and have had recurrent subcutaneous melanoma one year ago. Also noticed both ankles/feet extremely swollen for 3 days about 3 weeks ago.

Hi,

Well, if you had such pain in the past before Chron's was identified, then perhaps it could be the cause. However Chron's usually doesn't present with this type of pain. This pain may be due to musculoskeletal ache or subtle inguinal hernia or a non specific ache. Without a physical examination it would be extremely hard to arrive at a conclusion. Ultrasound examination is in order if physical check up provides no details about the cause.

I don't think the pain or short duration limb swelling is related to melanoma. You need not be worried about that. If swelling recurs, I will like to test peripheral blood vessels, blood count, liver, renal and cardiac functions.

In short, the symptoms are not alarming. It may not recur again, if it does you now know what you need to do.
