What Causes Severe Pain While On Dilaudid?

Question: I had to at all knee replacement I was placed on dilaudid 6 mg every three hours for two weeks then 6 mg every six hours for two weeks then 15 mg of morphine every six hours for two days during the the first two weeks of dilaudid I developed a kidney stone so I had kidney pain for two days and had my first sign of cold chills and hot flashes kidney stone passed two weeks later have been tested for infection I have none had complete upper gi series of test and an MRI all normal yet I remain nausea and have cold chills hot flashes was taken off all drugs 4 days ago . I don't know what else to do or where to go

Hello! I have been through your question.
Related your concern you should know that Dilaudid has side effects like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness,sweating,flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling)etc. So based on the above mentioned symptoms I think this situation is as a result of dilaudid side effects.
The best solution is to stop this medication as you have done and during this time you should use anti vomiting drugs,proton pump inhibitor(omeprazole, pantoprazole) and probiotics.

Thank you very much for your reply. Could you tell me how long this might take? As I am miserable. I have finally been able to eat a little something. And the nausea , is a wee bit better. But the chills and flashing are still present.

It is a good news that you are a bit better and have starting to eat something.

You should know that Dilaudid stay in the body in blood <24 hours after last use, in hair 3-6 months after last use, in saliva 2-3 days after last use and in urine 2-3 days after last use.
But usually the side effects could last days and maybe 1 week after the use of this medication and varies from one person in another.
Furthermore if these symptoms last more I suggest to meet a doctor in order to exclude other problems.
