Brief Answer:
Gastritis / withdrawal pain

Detailed Answer:
Thank yo for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Stomach pain while tapeing gabapentin is likely a gastric discomfort / gastritis. Likely any other pain killer, gabapentin also affect GI symptoms and prolonged use or withdrawing it both causes GI symptoms.

All you need is some pepto and some nexium for the pain. Nature of the pain may be burning in gastritis too. However at age of 66 and use of neuropathic pain killers, one can suspect neurological causes for the pain and may be a body response to quitting analgesics.

Talk to your doctor. Let them try an alternate painkiller, if the pain subsides, it was just the body response to withdrawal of gabapentin and if the pain persists the its gastric and will need antacids.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
