What Causes Severe Vaginal Dryness And Itching?
Question: hello I am a 24 year old female and I am a bit concerned. so for the past 5 days I have noticed that the inside of my vagina is both red and feels extremely dry which is not the usual. My vagina has an itch that comes and goes these past few days and it's an uncomfortable itch. I have also noticed that around the outside of my urethra is swollen and looks enlarged. There is no sign of discharge nor is there pain during urination. I have never experienced anything like this before. I have been on birth control for 7years, have not had a sexual partner in the last 2months.

The vaginal dryness and itching is commonly encountered in two conditions ,
One is The Candidiasis (yeast), this does present with intense itching and foul smelling curdy discharge.This condition can be easily treated with antifungals like Flucanazole. It is less likely in your case as there is no discharge.
The other possibility for such a problem is low estrogen levels leading to dryness in the vagina which stimulate the vaginal mucosa and cause itching.
Do get examined by a gynaecologist and ascertain the cause to get treated.
Meanwhile you can take an antihistaminic like Benadryl which will reduce the itching.
