What Causes Sharp Pain In Armpit?
Question: i have pain left side below armpit. dull to sharp stabbing. worst when i lay down.

After going through your query I concluded that you are having most likely muscular pain.Its treatment is rest in comfortable position and analgesic such as ibuprofen / diclofenac. Hot fomentation is soothing.
Second possibility is acute cervical disc prolapse as pain is dull to sharp stabbing.It can be confirmed by MRI of cervical spine.Treatment is rest to neck in position of comfort, analgesic such as ibuprofen/ diclofenac. If pain is not responding to these drugs then tramadol can be taken. Analgesic are to be taken after meals. Mecobalamine is useful as pain is neurogenic.
other possibility is pain of heart origin, but less likely because it is worst when you lay down and absent of other symptoms.

do you have any ideas what may have caused this? i do not recall doing anything that would have strained it. are there any signs or symptoms that i should look for that may indicate that it is something else? i do not have any pain in neck so far.

After going through your query and follow up query I want to say that muscular pain is caused by overuse of arm in strenuous activity however disc prolapse is caused by any sudden jerk to neck,in disc prolapse some neck pain or stiffness is there.
So as it is on left side pain heart related cause should be excluded,but as it is worst when you lay down does not fit in its clinical setting. Heart pain is more on walking and relieved by rest.Other signs and symptoms of heart related pain are sweating,breathlessness specially on walking ,restlessness and feeling of discomfort or tightness in chest.
Another possibility is pleurisy. In this pain should be more on deep breathing and coughing. Its treatment is few days of rest and analgesics.
