Brief Answer:
It could be infection of the gut or urinary bladder.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Pain in lower abdomen below belly button could be
due to infection of the gut or urinary bladder.
In infection of the urinary bladder, i.e Cystitis , there will be burning urination with or without dark coloured urine. If these symptoms are absent, then it is excluded.
For pain due to infection of gut, I prescribe Antibiotic like Rifaximine and a antispasmodic tablet containing Dicyclomine to my patients.
Please avoid outside food.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

I have had in the past a hernia (belly button area). Since I lifted that heavy dog could this have anything to do with that? The pain is more centered and low. No temp. Ruling out appendix because pain is not located at far right?

Brief Answer:
Pain can be due to Umbilical hernia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Hernia in the belly button area will be painless initially. But,when intestine or Omentum (fat)comes into the sac of the hernia, then pain is initiated. If the content of the sac gets blocked, then there will be severe pain.
Please let me know whether hernia gets disappeared in lying down posture or not.If it disappears, then pain is not due to hernia.
Pain due to Appendicitis is located in right lower side of the abdomen commonly. If the position of the Appendix is pelvic, then the pain will be below belly button . Ultrasound abdomen will give a clue.
As you have mentioned that pain appeared after lifting, another possibility is musculoSkeletal pain. I prescribe Skeletal muscle relaxant tablet containing Thiocolchicoside to my patients.
Nothing to worry.

Brief Answer:
Fever will be present in late stages of hernia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Fever will be present in late stages of hernia when the bowel.gets obstructed and strangulated. There will vomiting and constipation.
In case of Appendicitis, fever will not be present in all cases.Pain abdomen is the predominant complaint.
Please consult your doctor and get an Ultrasound abdomen. It will give a clue.
Wish you good health.

OK the pain does subside in a lying down posture but does not disappear. So if this is enough to possibly rule out hernia then am I correct in thinking that an ultrasound will discover if the Appendix is pelvic? Would there not be an elevated temperature in that case? The urinary situation seems normal.

Brief Answer:
Appendix can be made out in Pelvic position.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
If there is no swelling in lying down posture, then pain due to hernia is ruled out.
If the Appendix is inflammed and Pelvic in position, it can be made out by Ultrasound. But,CT Scan is the Investigation of choice in Appendicitis.
I have seen many cases of Appendicitis without Fever.Pain was the only complaint.
Hope I answered your query.
