What Causes Sharp Pain In The Breasts?
Question: I am 60 year old post menopausal obese female (215 lbs @ 5'5"). Have had numerous biopsies in right breast over the years. All benign. This year's mammo was normal (but dense tissue). Did digital one. Anyway, I am having sharp needle like pain in left breast under the nipple area. Some soreness in both over the past few weeks, but I am in Jazzercise 3x a week for past 4 months and think/thought that was/is cause. Could still be. Pain has been persisting for past 1/2 hour. Didn't go exercise today and didn't use any weights yesterday. When I do use weights, they're only 4 pounds each so nothing heavy. Thinking I need to call my gynecologist and get an ultrasound b/c of the pain. What do you think?
Brief Answer:
Can be a muscle pain.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The soreness in the breasts could be due to weight lifting or a muscle soreness due to the exercise. Since your mammo was normal this year any breast related pathology is less likely. This usually subsides with a hot compress and mild pain killers. Taking proper postmenopausal vitamin supplements will also help.
