What Causes Shortness Of Breath, Sweating And Wheezing After A Flu Shot?

Posted on Tue, 8 Nov 2016
Question: I have copd and have done very well for 3 years and after my flu shot I wasn't feeling great tired, then a little short of breath, sweating and my oxygen level which is usually 95 or 96 started dropping to 90 after carrying something or being anxious. I did have wheezing so I called my regular doc he started the steroid pack, but after a few days I was still not good so for the past couple of days I have been on an antibiotic. I saw my lung doc a few weeks ago and all was well. What I wanted to know if this was a flare up I think thats what they refer to it as. Thanks MP

Brief Answer:
Continue antibiotics, steroids and inhalers

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

Yes you are right-it is a flareup. In medical terms it is called acute exacerbation of COPD. You have to take a course of antibiotics and a short course of oral steroids to tide over the crisis.

Another important thing is you have to continue with inhalers both rescue ones and controllers. So along with spiriva, you also take symbicort. With continuing treatment, you should start improving within a weeks time.

If you are a smoker, avoid smoking, it will help.

Take care.
