Brief Answer:
Unlikely for cervical disc prolapse to cause shortness of breath

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'am,I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but cervical disc herniation is unlikely to cause shortness of breath unless accompanied weakness of respiratory muscles is present. Shortness of breath is more commonly associated with thoracic disc prolapse ..
Other causes of shortness of breath ( in absence of lung or heart pathology) include iron difficiency anemia which can be diagnosed by a CBC test and can be treated by iron and folic acid supplements.. Also hyperthyroidism can cause shortness of breath, which can be diagnosed by a blood test for T3, T4 and TSH level.. I hope you find this helpful

Brief Answer:
Might help

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'am, I would recommend that you exclude iron difficiency anemia before going to surgery by a CBC test to detect your hemoglobin level.
Also I would recommend that you exclude thyroid hormonal imbalance as a cause of respiratory distress..
surgery for disc herniation can cause relieve of your symptoms if the pinched nerves were affecting the function of your respiratory muscles .. I hope you find this helpful..
