Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1.
Chronic Sinusitis is a focus of infection in the body. The combined surface area of the para nasal sinuses is large. This allows toxins generated by even low grade
sinus inflammation and infections to diffuse easily into the bloodstream and lead too the common feeling of being unwell, weakness, aches and
fatigue. A
Post Nasal Drip (PND) may also frequently infect the throat and gut.
2. Get a plain CT PNS (Para Nasal Sinuses) done. (NCCT= Non Contrast CT). This will help detect the Chronic Sinusitis.
3. Maximum medical therapy for Chronic Sinusitis includes 4 to 8 weeks of anti-allergic,
steroid nasal sprays, steam inhalation. Antibiotics, mucolytics, decongestants and other
supportive medication should be left to the discretion of the treating physician. Nasal swabs may be done.
4. It is important to consider 'biofilm' formation, fungal infections/ allergy, transfer of infection between each other and also rule out other causes of these symptoms. Therefore a general examination is a must.
5. Balloon Sinuplasty is a new minimally invasive technique to safely flush out the sinuses.
