
What Causes Slightly Raised WBC Count?

Question: If you have a white blood count that is high and you carry a low grade temperature after bacterial pneumonia and you are on IV antibiotics for three weeks; you have copd; they are also giving predisone, cultures have been done with no blood culture findings, what would cause the white blood count to be 14.7?
she has been receiving ivs with 1 gram or 1000 units of vancomcin, twice daily and another antibiotic meropenum 3 times daily. This has continued from january 5th to the 21st then stopped until the 28 of january, when she was readmitted into the hospital. She feels better, her completion is returning to normal. Her normal body temperature is 97.3 degrees. Her temperature has ranged from 98.5 degrees to 100. 4 degrees since january 1, with a couple times reaching 102 degrees. Her appetite is good. She has not smoked a cigarette since January 1st at the first onset of the symptoms. She had a pick line in the right arm which showed infection near the center of it, which was removed on january 27th. Her glands in the neck are swollen, however after an x-ray of the area shows no signs of any infection.
