What Causes Small Dark Lump At The Base Of Frenulum?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Jun 2015
Question: I have a small dark (blueish black) ball like lump at the base of my frenulum on the right side where it attaches to the floor of my mouth. There are smally fleshy bobbles either side of the frenulum and this black lump is just above the right one. It is not painful but I can feel it like a firm bobble when I run the tip of my tongue inside my mouth towards my teeth.

Should there be any cause for concern? I took a photo but don't know how to upload it for you.

Brief Answer:
inflammation of sublingual salivary glands .

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX ,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query .

Read your query and gone through reports (image) you have attached as far as I have observed it is due to inflammation of sublingual salivary gland . As sublingual salivary gland is situated under floor of mouth . Salivary gland infection is somewhat common , this can be due to Bacterial or viral infection or spicy food also .
For this I will suggest you do some easy selfcare remedies that you can practice at home-
- Maintaine good oral hygiene . Use chlorhexidine mouthwash .
- Do XXXXXXX warm saline rinses 2 to 3 times a day that helps you in reduce swelling .
- You can apply Anaesthetic ointment containing lignocaine like Mugel or Dologel .
-Avoid spicy food . Take soft diet .
- Drink lots of water in order to keep mouth moist .
- use sugar free lemon drops to increase flow of saliva .

You can do these selfcare remedies at home if itsnt get better then consult oral surgeon for clinical (visual) examination of swelling and treatment .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help .
