What Causes Small Itchy Bumps On The Inner Labia?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: About a month ago I developed taste bud like growths on my inner labia. Initially they were itchy and I was given antibiotics and they stopped itching, but they're still there. I have gone for some check ups at the clinic in my university but they couldn't tell me for certain what it was. They do not have any discharge. What are they?

Brief Answer:
Can be folliculitis or warts.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The small outgrowths on labia minora can be due to many reasons. The most common reasons can be-
1. Folliculitis - due to infected hair follicles. Usually has pus inside and needs an antibiotic and anti inflammatory drug for treatment.
2. Sebaceous cyst- due to a blocked sebaceous gland. The secretions start collecting inside and becomes painful. Needs to be surgically removed if infected.
3. Genital warts- due to a viral infection. Some of the simple tests carried out by your gynaecologist will confirm the diagnosis.
A thorough examination is a must for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Till then you can take general cleanliness measures to avoid any infection in that area.
