What Causes Small Pain Around Liver?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Oct 2014
Question: Sir I had to go through extensive chemotherapy as I was recently diagnosed for blood cancer. Though my treatment got over and I was discharged in the first of week of August from hospital but I developed fatty liver and increased 'SGPT' so I was prescribed for Udiliv 300 and Vitamin E 400 twice a day. I also take 8 km walk in a day though my SGPT had come down to 123 from 216 as per last month blood test but now sometimes I feel very small pain around my liver area and my cholesterol had also shot up. Pl advise should I reduce the dose of Udiliv since now it is 3rd month I have been taking this medicine but I fear that if I reduce the quantity my SGPT may again increase. Does vitamin E has got any kind of side effect. Pl advise.

Brief Answer:
you are advised to continue udiliv 300

Detailed Answer:
welcome to healthcare magic,
from your detailed medical history after chemotherapy for blood cancer you developed fatty liver and increased liver parameters for that you are prescribed drugs like udiliv 300 and vitamin E 400
udiliv contains ursodeoxycholic acid which is nothing but a bile acid.this substance is naturally produced in the body and is stored in the gall bladder. it is used in the treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis. or liver damage.it also decreases the production of cholesterol and dissolves to bile.
side effect of this drug is very minimal like diarrhea and stomach upset etc.

the other drug is vitamin E
this vitamin e dissolves fat that is the reason it is used for you

vitamin e deficiency is very rare condition and it is used in that condition too.
as your cholesterol levels were also high vitamin e was prescribed to you
daily recommended dosage of vitamin e is 15mg

vitamin e at these higher dosage may not be needed to you i want these things to be discussed to your treating physician before reducing or discontinuing
side effect of vitamin e is also minimal like nausea vomiting stomach cramps and headache.

i want you to repeat liver function blood tests to know its current status an then only your treating physician will stop udiliv(ursodeoxycholic acid) till then i want you to continue udiliv.
hope this explains in detail about both the drugs
feel free if you have any followup questions
