What Causes Soft Swollen Spot On Back Of Neck?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Aug 2015
Question: My 86 year old mother has developed a soft swollen spot on the base of the side of her neck and also on the upper side of her back and they are very painful. Could these be lipomas? Her body also makes too much blood and frequently she has blood drawn to reduce her count.

Brief Answer:
USG (ultrasound). FNAC.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Lipomas are usually painless.

2. Get a USG ( ultrasound) done.

3. An FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cyrology) will settle the tissue diagnosis.

4. Rule out adiposis dolorosa, where the Lipomas are painful and anginomatus Lipomas.

5. Polycythemia is seen in rare cases and is more likely to be unrelated to Lipomas.

6. Upload these reports for further management options.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
