What Causes Sore And Painful Muscles In Upper Legs And Buttocks?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: my muscles in my upper legs and butt are very sore, so sore that it hurts very bad just to lift the feet to climb a few stairs or to put slacks on. i just got an injection of kenlog 40 mg. with lidocaine 5 cc in my "r" hip for my bursitis. it took all the bursitis pain away and only about 85% to 90% of the muscle pain. i can lift my legs w/o extreme pain now but if i sit or walk too log my butt still hurts. any idea what it can be? i do seem to make a lot of inflammation and i take natural things for that.

Brief Answer:
Sciatica and sacroiliac joint arthritis should be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Sciatica and sacroiliac joint arthritis can be suspected in your case. Pain while sitting for long time can be due to sacroiliac joint arthritis. Giving kenalog with lidocaine on sacroiliac joint will give relief for that.
As muscles of legs are also affected along with butt , it can be from sciatica also. This occurs due to bony spurs or lumbar/sacral intervertebral disc problems. X ray followed by MRI of Lumboscral spine will be helpful to rule out and confirm it.
For this I usually suggest muscle relaxants along with NSAIDs to stop the pain - spasm - pain vicious cycle. Once it is decreased you can start extensive physiotherapy and gradually back and leg muscle strengthening exercises.
Sleep on hard mattress. Avoid sleeping on abdomen. Avoid sitting for long periods. Avoid lifting heavy weights or leaning forward down more.
You can also do hot fomentation or warm compress on lower back. Applying gels containing methyl salicylate and NSAIDs like Diclofenac or Ketoprofen is also good.
Check your vitamin D and B12 levels in blood. If it is low taking supplements of those is also recommended.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

THANK YOU. I'LL TRY THIS. I HAVE TROUBLE STANDING FOR LONG PERIODS AS I HAVE BAD FEET. WHEN I STAND OR WALK TOO FAR MY LEGS HURT AT THE HIP JOINTS. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BONE ON BONE. I HAVE HAD 3 BACK SURGERIES AND MULTI PAL SURGERIES ON MY FEET. I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH PADDING ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FEET AND I HAVE FALLEN ARCHES SO I WEAR PRESCRIBED INSERTS IN MY SHOES. SOMETIME IT TAKES THE PAIN AWAY AND SOMETIMES,LIKE TODAY IT DOESN'T. I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO BE WALKING ON THICK GEL. I PUT ON MY THICK FLIP-FLOPS AND THE FEET FEEL BETTER BUT I'M NOT GETTING THE ARCH SUPPORT. ITS VERY HOT HERE IN XXXXXXX AND WHEN I WEAR THE TENNIS SHOES MY FEET BREAK OUT IN A HORRIBLE RASH. I'M JUST MEASURABLE AND I KNOW MY FEET AND MY BACK ARE MOST OF THE PROBLEM.

Brief Answer:
Specially designed foot wear might be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

Improper alignment of foot also can cause wear and tear to hip joints and associated structures. Using a specially designed foot wear and soles which suits your foot will be helpful to minimise this. You can consult a Podiatrician for this. He/she will examine your foot and advise you correct foot wear and soles. But if it is not improving then you may need foot arch correction surgery.
