Brief Answer:
Suggestive of chronic irritative inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Sore throat not clearing away despite antibiotics could be due to some resistant strain of micro-organism.
Throat swab will identify the resistant strain causing the sore throat.

The other and more likely possibility of these symptoms is chronic irritative cough.
Association with dry cough favours chronic irritative cough.
The throat swab will show whether the cough is infective or irritative.

Saline gargles with lukewarm water will provide relief to inflamed mucosa.
If the cough is very irritative during night you can take antihistamine preparation (consult your primary health provider for prescription)
During the day lozenges can be taken.

Wait for the test results and post them for interpretation.

If you have more queries I will be glad to answer.

the results from the blood test and throat swab were negative my GP thought that I might be suffering from glandular fever, but that's not the case next week I am going to hospital for further tests re my throat which obviously worries me
