What Causes Soreness Around Knees?
Question: Greetings Dr. Gupta! As recommended by my orthopedist and confirmed by you, I have begun physiotherapy 2 x week which includes massage around my arthritis-affected knee on my leg that had the posterior tibial transfer. The massaging was very sore around the knee, and the physiotherapist said the soreness was not only in the muscles around the affected knee but also "small blood vessels." Could you explain medically what that means, and why "small blood vessels" would cause so much soreness under massage manipulation? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Soreness could occur in muscles.
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
I do not think that there is soreness in small blood vessels. Soreness could occur in muscles in osteoarthritic knee. With regular knee exercise, soreness around knee will gradually weans off.
