What Causes Soreness In The Shoulders?

Question: I have a crook in the neck on the left side, a very sore left shoulder and can't raise my left arm above my head. I had a CT and was told I had bulging discs at the back of my neck near the nape of my neck. I have been on Diazepam, Tramadol, and And Naproxen for the pain. I had a MRI Wednesday but my doctor's office has not given me the results although I called twice Thursday. I have been off work since last Monday and will return Monday. I don't know what to do. My shoulder is still frozen.
Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Thanks for the query
I have read your query and understood your problem.
Do you have any radiating pain from the back of the neck to the upper limb?
Cervical spondylosis can cause disc bulge especially at your age, but it would be best to have a look at your report more closely to come to the right diagnosis.
Do get the MRI scan done after which we can decide the treatment appropriately.
Till then, Physiotherapy is good, avoid bending neck forwards, apply warm packs to the affected regions. Avoid using thick pillow while sleeping.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

I have radiating pain from the left side of the neck to the left shoulder and the upper part of the left side of the back, too. When I lay flat on the bed I can move the arm around making sort of an XXXXXXX wing. However, when I stand my arm can move slightly up and if I pull it up it with the other arm it falls back down.
I have been told to stay on bedrest till Tuesday. Should I do so? I have been off since Monday and am a professor.

Brief Answer:
Pregabalin
Detailed Answer:
Yes, You are having symptoms of nerve compression causing the radiating pain. This is also causing weakness of the muscles supplied by those compressed nerves.
Physiotherapy is a must. TENS and Neck extension exercises. Also do wear a cervical collar for relief.
I think Diazepam isn't required. It is causing the drowsiness. Take Tablet Pregabalin 75mg twice a day. This shall take care of the nerve pain and you'll feel much better to you get your MRI.
