What Causes Sour Smelling Body Odor When Diagnosed With Diabetes?
Question: My husband has been recently diagnosed with diabetes. Lately I've noticed he has a "sour milk" odor. Is this normal or does it have anything to do with the diabetes or meds that he is taking? His Medications are metformin and piogliatzone nexium lisinopril and zyrtec
Brief Answer:
About sour milk odor;
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern regarding to your husband's symptoms.
Usually, when the ketones are positive the smell is like fruit or nail polish removal.
Anyway, if the blood sugar is over 250 and he doesn' t feel well (has nausea, vomiting, fatigue ect) check the ketones in urine with an urine stick.
Otherwise, if he doesn't have other symptoms a clinical examination of the mouth and gastric problems should be excluded.
The medications you mentioned do not cause sour milk odor.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
