default
Posted on Tue, 31 Mar 2015
Question: I have acid reflux also in 1989 I had a meningioma brain tumor. They couldn't get all of it because it was wrapped around the main artery behind my right eye, so I had to take radiation.
My problem now is this. For about 4 or more months I've been having problems. My body get spastic and I throw up profusely and it last for at least 30 to 45 minutes, my body is still spastic.
My question is this. What causes this?
I have not received my email about my password

I can't seem to get an appointment with my Neurologist, but I made an appointment with my medical doctor

Thanks for trying to help me. I'm at my witts end with this.

Brief Answer:
Repeat scan of the head

Detailed Answer:
Good morning young lady. I hope things begin to roll your way as you've got one thing in your favor for sure......You are from the Great State of Texas! My brother was born at XXXXXXX and White Memorial back in the 60's and we lived in XXXXXXX while my father was a surgical resident in training there.....now, I'm a neurologist in Ohio, my brother's an Internist, and my dad's still practicing in the office at age 84...soon to be 85. How's them apples for folks who once lived in XXXXXXX

Now, to your problem. You say that for the past 4 months you've been having problems characterized mostly by "body spasticity and throwing up." Your history is that of a meningioma which could not be fully resected and resulted in radiation treatment for what was left (1989). Whenever someone talks about suddenly throwing up without much else going on and a previous history of a brain lesion which could not be completely resected my first thought is that you may be suffering from a recurrence of the meningioma. There is a high recurrence rate of those things....they're kind of like dandelions.....pick the yard clean and soon enough....later in the spring even...or for sure by early fall....they're back again.

In your case the time frame is much longer...on the order of 20+ years but that's OK..because meningiomas are very slow growing.

And so, my first recommendation is that you get an imaging study of the brain...of course, as a neurologist I'd love for that study to be an MRI of the brain and WITH CONTRAST since we're looking for a mass lesion....if the mass has recurred then, you've got your answer. And the body spasticity as well as vomiting are being caused by the increased pressure inside the cranial vault.

Could you also provide more description of what exactly you mean by "body spasticity?" Do you mean that the entire body (limbs and torso?) become stiff or rigid? Is there convulsive like shaking? Is there a change in your level of alertness or what doctors might call a mental status change?

You may benefit from an electroencephalogram (EEG) looking for seizure activity which is not that uncommon with the presence of meningiomas (if it has recurred).

Why are you on Sinemet? Do you have a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease or are you being treated for Restless Legs Syndrome or something totally different?

I'd appreciate the favor of a STAR RATING and some written feedback if your question has been satisfactorily answered.
