Question: I am a 40 yr old black female. I have ITP and Mitral valve prolapse. I have started having brief episodes of spitting up bright red blood after running and occasionally after sex. Can you please help me.
Brief Answer:
Schedule immediate appointment with specialists...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your medical history and understood your concerns.
Spitting up bright red blood after running and occasionally after sex is indicative for pulmonary edema most probably due to progression of Mitral valve prolapse.
I suggest to schedule an appointment with your hematologist and cardiologist as soon as possible to further evaluate your current health situation. I also advise to run following tests:
- chest X-ray
- complete blood profile
- coagulation tests
If it will take long to get an appointment, and if the symptoms will get worst, then, I advise to go to ER for immediate evaluation. Meanwhile, avoid heavy activities like running or sex until doctor's advice.
Hope it was of help! Let me know if you have further questions!
