What Causes Spots On Buttocks And In The Crease Between Thigh?
Question: I recently had sex with someone I've been seeing awhile two weeks ago. we used protection but he didn't tell me until after the fact that he has herpes. He didnt have any sores at this time. Since then I've gotten a few spots on my butt and some in the crease between my thigh and button. They don't hurt or itch and seem to be worse after I'm in the heat or working out. There has been no oozing although some appear to have a tiny white head and then just goes to a scab.I have an appointment tomorrow with my OB but I can't stop thinking about it..does this sound like herpes or something else?

They all seem to be going away pretty quickly, and i wouldnt know they were there unless i had looked. The picture with the single bump was the first one that appeared and hasnt came to a head or blistered at all.. Hoping for the best preparing dpr the worst!

After analyzing the picture let me first reassure you that your condition is neither herpes and nor any type of sexually transmitted disease.
So take a deep breath and relax first!!!
So you must be wondering what is the condition then...
After analyzing the picture I can make out that you have "Folliculitis": It is the inflammation of of the hair root and attached oil glands. You can see in the picture that each eruption is scattered and not closely grouped.
To tell you medically - Herpes lesions manifest itself as small vesicles (fluid filled blisters) which remains for just a day or two and then forms ulcers which are quite painful. These ulcers then heals in next 5-7 days.
To begin with also these vesicles are quite painful and itchy with discomfort and once the vesicles burst in a day or two then the ulcers which are formed are quite painful for next 4-5 days. So the symptoms can never go unnoticed and complete illness of herpes remains for 7-14 days only.
In your case you can make out that there are no vesicles and no ulcer formation and most specifically in herpes the lesions occur only for single time in one episode and not comes in crops one after the other.
So rest assured about herpes and relax.
Additionally I give you certain suggestion to follow for the prevention of folliculitis:
1. Avoid continuous sitting for long hours.
2. Wear cotton clothes & undergarments and avoid synthetic clothes.
3. Stay in cool environment(preferably AC) and avoid sweating.
4. Take two time bath once in morning and at night time which will soothe your skin and prevent the aggravation of the problem
5. Do not Pinch pop or squeeze or rub any area.
6. Do not use any deodorants or any cosmetics over and near the affected area.
7. Do cold compression over the affected area. Take a wet towel soaked in cold water and apply it for 5-10 minutes for 3-4 times a day.
For the part of treatment kindly follow the suggestions below:
1. In your kind of cases I suggest my patients to apply over the counter available antibiotic cream such as mupirocin or fucidin cream in a thin layer in morning and at night time. Apply in a very thin layer so that it should not be visible to naked eye. You can apply it for 7 days and then stop it after that.
2. A pain killer anti-inflammatory tablet should be taken once or twice daily to reduce inflammation and pain. The groin pain at nodes is due to referred pain of infection and inflammation. It will get reduced as the inflammation subsides.
3. Additionally if there is any irritation or itching is present then can take tablet “Loratadine” or "Deslotatadine" tablet by mouth up to 2-3 times also if the itching is more.
The best part in your case is use of protection. So always use protection to prevent every type of STDs.

Thank you so much for a bit of optimism! However my only concern is that i have never had yhis and what are the odds of it happening so close to being exposed to herpes? (More of a retorical question) what causes this and why now? Im an athelete and run between 3-5 milesq day and usually wear toght yoga pants, could this be the cause? Again going to the dr tomm just want to go prepared..

to tell you further that neither the lesions match with herpes nor is the site for the herpes lesions. Though I am sitting thousands of miles away from you not having an opportunity for close examination but on the basis of pictures I am fully sure that the condition is not herpes.
Further, you are an athletic lady so it is quite common to find folliculitis in athletic person because of irritation of the hair root as well as the synthetic tight pants you wear or due to simple friction and sweating too!!
Just the part is that incidentally these developed after the intercourse. So you are correlating with herpes which is actually not present.
In your kind of cases who are really anxious - the ultimate answer is by going for tests for herpes. If you go for IgM for HSV1 & 2 ( causative agents of herpes) then these would be coming negative. So if you are really stressed then can go for same for peace of your mind.
Follow the suggestion as told before and you will be alright.
