What Causes Spotting After Stopping Femilon Pills?
Question: I am 27 years old woman, normal physiques, married since two years. I was taking OCP's (Femilon) for the past one and half years. And now after stopping the pill, I started having scanty periods with spotting only. I am worried since we would like to plan for pregnancy now. What causes spotting and what can I do to bring on a normal period?

Hi Ma'am
I started taking the pill in Aug 2012 and came off last month, May 2014. Had a spotting period in May for 2-3 days. Then again the spotting period came yesterday. I had almost regular cycles(5-7 days bleeding) before taking the pill and I never spotted that time. We have just started our preparations for a pregnancy now. Could you tell me how to restore my regular periods?

Hello
The spotting could be due to the changes that occur in your body, as the hormonal effects wear off.
Give yourself 3 months.
If by August you are facing the same problems, then you should have a thorough workup for irregular spotting.
This would include an internal evaluation - per vaginum and per speculum.
ALso a pelvic ultrasound scan.
Plus hormones - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone, Lipid profile.
Based on the results, treatment would be tailored.
RIght now you have nothing to worry, this is just withdrawal effect from the pills.
Take care.
