What Causes Spreading Bruise On Foot?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014
Question: I discovered a bruise on the top of my foot and it began to spread and tonight I noticed it had a white center and I tried to scratch if off but it is in the skin and looks somewhat scaley after I picked at it. Do not remember hitting the top of my foot but I was outside in the yard with no shoes on a few days ago.

Brief Answer:
Senile purpura

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

As age progresses skin becomes wrinkled and the elastin and collagen content decreases. Thus support on small blood vessels decrease. So even very minor trauma like scratches or bumps can cause bruising, we call it senile purpura. As bruise becomes old color changes from red to blue, black, green and yellow can be noticed over it. There is a small possibility of infection causing pus filled centre.

Spider bites can also cause bruise like rash, but this will be usually painful.
