Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: Hi, 4 months ago after a sneeze i felt a stapping pain in my mid back between shoulder blade and spine, fee days later i had strong muscle spasm. I had mri that shows a buldging disc c7-t1. However my back pain withou spasm around scabulea , chest rib cage got worse specially painful when i push, pull or try to twist. I did xrays, blood test, chest ct scan and all normal. They say it could be serratus antirior strain, or intercostal.... But not able to be definitive.
It is 4 months on pain killers with no progress

Brief Answer:
Can be a muscle sprain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain that you have described is likely to be due to a minor muscle tear or a muscle sprain. Inadequate rest to the injured muscle can cause a delay in healing.
Since CT scan and MRI scan are normal there is no need to worry. Doing a hot compress, oral muscle relaxants and avoiding all the painful movements will help in an early recovery. A bulging disc can also be responsible for the pain you are having. Using a cervical collar and avoiding using a pillow will also help.
I hope this answers your query.
