What Causes Stomach Discomfort And Soreness On Back Post Gall Bladder Removal?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: I had my gallbladder removed after many years of pain most recent being in pain for 11 days until it finally had to come out it was not functioning properly and pathology came back as chronic inflammation. I felt better after surgery with the normal surgical pains, but I am still having significant discomfort and it has been almost a month my IBS seems to have flared up and my back is very sore on the right side so is the upper abdomen below breast area esp to do anything for a period of time. I feel worse in many ways not like im drastically improving every day. I know a few people who had it out and it was no big deal..reading online recovery says a few weeks and even my surgeon thought I a week Id be back to normal or almost. Im 32 yrs old and eat very healthy low fat all the time. I guess my question is am I the only one going through this?? Is this unusual or im just the unlucky?

Brief Answer:
Little longer than usual, may be due to IBS.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query.
I can understand your concern.
Any surgery performed in abdomen , may be minimal invasive , it does disturb the internal arrangement of abdomen.
It takes little time for the same to return to normal.
Minor discomfort or "not the same feeling" differs in individuals.
YES , Your discomfort seems to be little longer than most of others, this may be due to flaring up of your IBS.Your soreness of back may be because of some other cause like ,Lying for longer period of time.
But it will pass away. Apply heating pad at back.
IBS- this can come from bile irritating your digestive system; eating high-fibre food such as brown rice and wholemeal bread will help to firm up your stools.
biliary acid is excreted directly to the large bowels associated with diarrhea
- the bile is responsible for the digestion of fats. So, malabsorption of fat is another possibility, what ever fat you are eating.
If I were your treating doctor I would have prescribe you
1. Racecadotril for about a week.
2. psyllium husk for about 2 weeks.
Hope I have answered your query.
Please also feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.
Good luck.

Its been an ongoing battle since surgery 12/20.. I was pretty good at first.. at least I was eating. Mild diarrhea..had a lot of mucous though orange and yellow. Than I took 2 pain meds at once and it was all down hill.. gastritis started soon after, severe nausea, diarrhea much worse. had endo showed mild gastritis and mild hital hernia. gave me omeprozole and cholesytramine, but that seemed to make my intestines really severe so stopped. do take tge fiber and eat very low fat. had Ct and im a tech as well.. learned my liver is big! Actually displaces the intestines a little but no inflammation showed so MD acts like it doesn't exist mean time I'm dying in pain. Will the ibs cause pain or inflammation through the liver as well since its so close?

Brief Answer:
IBS itself causes abdominal cramps.Does not spread to liver.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
The inflammation of inner lining of intestine does not cause inflammation of liver and vise versa .
Your pain seems to be cramps of IBS.
Once you are relieved from IBS you pain and discomfort will not be there.
Symptoms of IBS tend to worsen with stress, so please be aware of the same.
Hope I have answered your query.
